Benoni (South Africa): India’s second straight win in U-19 Women’s Twenty20 World Cup. UAE was defeated by 122 runs. Top of Group D, India are inching closer to the Super Six with a match to spare. Batting first, India posted a huge score of 219 runs for three wickets in 20 overs. UAE might only score 97 runs for five wickets in the stipulated over. Captain and opener Shafali Verma was India’s top scorer with 78 runs off 34 balls. Shweta Sherawat, another opener who continued her brilliant form, remained unbeaten on 78 off 49 balls. Wicketkeeper-batsman Richa Ghosh scored 49 runs off 29 balls.

Most of the players in the UAE team, including captain Tirtha Satish, are Indians or of Indian origin. Geetika Jyothis is from Thiruvananthapuram and Ishita Sehra is from Thalassery. Other Indians in the UAE youth team include Zia Swaroop Gokhale, Induja Nandakumar, Vaishnavi Mahesh, Lavanya Keni, Rinita Rajit and sister Rishita Rajit.
