SECOND STRAIGHT CUP TITLE – Sävehof

A very convincing performance, especially in the second half of the match, led to IK Sävehof’s second title in the ATG Swedish Cup on the women’s side. Just like last year, H65 Höör were defeated in the final – this time by 33–26.

In Sunday’s final in the ATG Swedish Cup, Sävehof initially fell a little behind in the shootout game. For Gulsvart, it was only Nina Koppang who then found the net, while Höör managed all three situations. Even in regular play, the opponents took command where it took until the fifth minute of play before Madeleine Rehnberg started Sävehof’s goal shooting.

With about 15 minutes played, the momentum slowly began to swing. From a 7-10 deficit, the team took the lead for the first time where “Madde” Rehnberg accounted for two goals, Elin Karlsson netted from her own half and Emma Mihailovic finally scored the lead goal.

Via goals from Alma Skretting and also Emma Nuhanovic, Höör got back into the odd-goal lead on a couple of occasions. The end of the first half, however, belonged to Jesper Östlund’s team, which via double goals from Laura Jensen and one from Nina Koppang converted the deficit into a lead with 16-14 going into the half-time break.

Much would then be about Koppang. Partly, she scored the first goal after the break, which was the first indication that the gap down to Höör was growing larger and becoming more permanent. The Högernian from Vadstena was dazzlingly good this afternoon and finally landed on nine goals scored.

Sävehof put in the definitive gold rush when Koppang started by making it 24-20 from the free throw line. Another five yellow and black goals in a row basically punctuated the final with just over ten minutes remaining. The gold hats could start to be sneaked out and finally handed out to players and managers at the full-time signal and when 33–26 was announced as Sävehof’s winning score.
