KLAUS/PALMA DE MALLORCA. The podium was the goal, in the end it was second place for the rally duo Kris Rosenberger/Sigi Schwarz at the “Rally Clásico Isla de Mallorca”. “It was a sensational rally with great special stages, where we benefited from Kris’ experience,” says co-driver Sigi Schwarz. The innkeeper from Steyrling was on Mallorca for the first time. Rosenberger had won the rally for historic vehicles in 2019 and had recently retired twice.
From the start, a three-way battle developed with the English pairing Seb Perez/Gary McElhinney and the German-Austrian duo Feustel/Becker. On the final day, Rosenberger/Schwarz were in second place with two special stages to go, five seconds behind. Then technical problems with Rosenberger’s Porsche 911 SC (built in 1981) made the decision. With only five cylinders, the two experienced drivers secured second place in the overall standings behind Perez/McElhinney from around 130 starters. This coming weekend, Rosenberger/Schwarz will start with a VW Polo GTI R5 in the Rebenland Rally. (mini)
