05/05/2023, Boca del Río, Ver.- The Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Veracruzana (UV), Veracruz region, held from April 26 to 28 the second day of altruistic, voluntary and recurring blood donation, within the framework of the Gotita de Sangre program.

This project arose from the need of the population and thanks to it, results have been obtained that help, reduce and alleviate part of this problem, through creativity, effort, human talent and teamwork, highlighted Julio César Viñas Dozal, director of the Faculty.

He added that the blood collection day has been very significant because it is a vital product and one more tool that “doctors can count on, but sometimes it is not available in the ideal way to care for a patient, and even to save a life.”

The Faculty of Medicine recognized Rubén Edel Navarro for the support given to the Gotita de Sangre project

Viñas Dozal considered it important to strengthen the preventive part in order to have a true culture of donation. He explained that Gotita de Sangre was born from this need, which “we want to be an ocean of all the activities we carry out and have been adding up.”

For his part, academic Manuel Saiz Calderón Gómez, driving force and promoter of Gotita de Sangre and member of the academic body (CA) Innovation and Educational Research in Health, pointed out: “This would not have been possible without the participation of all entities, mainly of Health Sciences, as well as other universities such as the Valley of Mexico and ‘Cristóbal Colón’, the State Center for Blood Transfusion, and the main beneficiary was the Mexican Association to Help Children with Cancer”.

Saiz Calderón highlighted that 96 bags of blood were collected over three days –with 450 milliliters each– and the 84 units of the previous year were exceeded.

Attendees at the closing of the second blood donation collection

Closing the event, Vice Chancellor Rubén Edel Navarro stated: “When this proposal came to me, I saw an excellent initiative that started from the collaboration of students, professors, academics and coordinators who were involved. The main thing is what happens on the way and what is going to happen.

”I celebrate the inter-institutional collaboration, where we are making a shared commitment a reality, which is an example for others; It is not only important to increase the number of donors, but also the number of complicities in this responsibility”, he concluded.

The official received a special recognition from the Faculty of Medicine, for his strong support for this initiative.

The event was attended by Pedro Gutiérrez Aguilar, Master Counselor of the Faculty of Medicine, and Wendy Oyuki Covarrubias, pioneer student of the project, as well as representatives of the institutions that collaborate in the program.
