Second anniversary of the Santo Domingo Complex, providing comprehensive services to senior citizens, is celebrated

Asuncion, IP Agency.- This department of the Ministry of Public Health celebrated its second anniversary with dancing, singing and lots of fun for the residents who receive comprehensive care, as well as those who attend the day center and outpatient care.

Over the two years since the start of the comprehensive care project for the elderly, the complex has been the space where users have given free rein to their creativity. They are artists, entrepreneurs and are responsible for growing and harvesting their own food in an organic garden.

The director of the complex, Dr. Lisa Barreto, thanked the residents for being part of the project from the beginning, when they faced the changes with the best of spirits. In that sense, she pointed out that it is important to look back, to see everything that has been achieved and it is an immense joy to be part of these advances. She maintained that the beneficiaries provided the motivation to always seek new challenges such as the artists, entrepreneurs and the organic garden led by Don Gustavo, she added.

She recalled that those attending the day centre, where many found a reason to continue, have the opportunity to share with people who have become like family.

He also indicated that patients who attend the outpatient clinic receive specialized care, which is unique in the Ministry of Public Health’s network.

Barreto highlighted and thanked those who made the new project possible, also made up of users, the Healthy Aging Club with which they arrive with a fresh air and optimism, being an example for future generations.

The gratitude was extended to the authorities who made the commitment to provide what was necessary for the complex to grow and to make senior citizens a priority in its management.

The event was attended by the national deputy, Johanna Vega, who chairs the Family and Senior Citizens Commission of the Chamber of Deputies. She highlighted that the users of the complex are the protagonists of the agreement signed by the Chamber of Deputies and the Ministry of Public Health, to bring the Healthy Aging Club to homes through Tv Cámara and Radio Cámara, where seniors will be able to access advice and recommendations on a healthy life.

The protagonists also expressed their gratitude for all the attention and opportunity provided over the past two years. Hernán Barrios, one of the singers in the complex’s choir, thanked the affection of the professionals who care for them and instruct them on how to live this stage of life.

For his part, Gustavo, leader of the organic garden, thanked those who helped him to make the garden a reality. Likewise, Blasia Legal, at 92 years old and the queen of the complex, valued this stage that she is living, highlighting that she continues working with crafts, doing crochet, macramé and painting.

Another user, Trinidad Fernández, said that she came to the complex to renew herself and she achieved this with the help of the professionals who, with dedication and a lot of preparation, allowed her to recover after being in intensive care.
