Breaking through to high performance and staying in the elite is usually a challenge for Chilean athletes.
A hard road. Stony. Exhausting. In which many times throwing in the towel is always an option. Meeting brands to maintain scholarships, maintaining a ranking to secure financing, is the constant pressure. A martyrdom towards each objective.
The great reference of Ñublensino taekwondo, Sebastián Navea González, knows this well, who has been a multi-time national champion, shining nationally and internationally with the Chilean knit. The Team Magnus athlete won a gold medal at the Bolivarian Games in 2017, a gold medalist at the 2018 Odesur Games and also won gold at the Panam Series III in Costa Rica, among his countless achievements.
As a good “Tatami Warrior”, Navea wants to recover ground and continue in the high competition.
That is why now their goal is to be present in two major competitive events in which they want to get on the podium.
The G1 Dominican Republic Open, which will be held in April in Santo Domingo, and the Specific Pan American Championship in Brazil, which will be held in May.
Raffle to gather resources
The outstanding athlete detailed his upcoming competitive objectives and the resources he still has to gather to attend.
“I am preparing for the Specific Pan American Championship that takes place in Rio de Janeiro, at the beginning of May. I am gathering resources for this competition and for the Rio Open. Prior to this event in Brazil, I am going to participate, in April, from the 12th to the 14th, there is the Dominican Republic Open, which I consider as preparation for the Specific Pan American Championship. It was also part of my preparation, the President Cup where I had a positive result. This with what is coming in the Dominican Republic is my preparation for Brazil,” says Navea, who is grateful for the initial support of the people who value his sports career.
People’s support
“Thanks to the support of the people, I already have the money to pay my ticket and now I find myself gathering resources for what I need to finance to be in the Dominican Republic and for the Pan American Games in Brazil. But that is the purpose, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic are preparatory events in which the idea is always to get a podium and add points for the world ranking and the Specific Pan American, which is my fundamental event this first semester, which is in May in Rio de Janeiro,” stressed Navea, who has just won a bronze medal in the Presidents Cup in Costa Rica.
