Seattle Mariners-Minnesota Twins Opening Day clash postponed due to weather conditions

The Opening Day game between the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins has been postponed due to inclement weather according to Thursday’s forecast in Minneapolis.

The game has been rescheduled for Friday at 4:10 pm ET. The forecast for Thursday sees a mix of rain and snow and cold conditions.

Reigning American League Cy Young Award winner Robbie Ray will make his Mariners debut, and rookie Joe Ryan will start for Minnesota.

Ryan, 25, was acquired last July in the trade that sent Nelson Cruz to the Rays, and will be the first rookie to start for the Twins on Opening Day since Tom Hall in 1969. The right-hander was a member of the USA who won a silver medal at the Olympics last summer.

The game will also mark the debut of several other high-profile players with new teams.

Newcomers Jesse Winker, Eugenio Suarez and highly touted rookie outfielder Julio Rodriguez are expected to make their Mariners debuts, while All-Star shortstop Carlos Correa and slugger Gary Sanchez will play their first game with the Twins.

Thursday’s opening game between the Red Sox and Yankees was also postponed due to inclement weather in New York.

That leaves seven games on Thursday’s schedule, with the Brewers-Cubs taking on the New York Mets in Washington, Cleveland at Kansas City, Pittsburgh at St. Louis, Cincinnati at World Series champion Atlanta, Houston at Los Angeles. Angels and San Diego in Arizona.
