Season preview Los Angeles Chargers – AmFoo.de

Departures: The Chargers have done a lot of clearing out and 29 players have left the team.

LG Zack Bailey is moving to Atlanta after not playing a single snap for the Chargers last season.

Three players moved to the Chicago Bears. WR Keenan Allen is an absolute loss. Last season he had 1243 yards and seven touchdowns. The 32-year-old will be missed. TE Gerald Everett had 411 yards and three touchdowns last season. LB Amen Ogbongbemiga only managed four tackles last season.

Two players are moving to Washington. RB Austin Ekeler only had 628 yards and five touchdowns last season, but he was only able to play 14 times and is definitely an absolute loss. CB Michael Davis had 62 tackles and one interception. The 62 tackles are the second best of his career. QB Will Grier is now in Philadelphia. The 29-year-old did not play for the Chargers. The loss of LB Eric Kendricks to Dallas really hurts. He was only there for one year, but had 117 tackles and 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble. Two players also left the team for Las Vegas. WR Jalen Guyton caught 10 balls for 89 yards and one touchdown last season. WR Keelan Doss caught six balls for 33 yards.

Once again there were two departures to the next team and that is the Tennessee Titans. TE Nick Vannett was able to catch a ball for three yards. LB Kenneth Murray, on the other hand, is quite a loss. The 25-year-old had 107 tackles, three sacks and one interception last season. For a change, the Chargers only traded one player to the Jaguars. LB Tanner Muse had just one tackle. Safety Jaylinn Hawkins has moved to New England. However, he only had eleven tackles. WR Mike Williams went to the New York Jets. Williams only made three appearances last season, rushing for 249 yards and one touchdown. In his seven years with the Chargers he had two seasons with over 1000 yards. And then two more players are moving to the Buffalo Bills. DT Austin Johnson had 46 tackles and forced one fumble.

Center Will Clapp played 61% of all snaps for the Chargers.

Former Pro Bowl center Corey Linsley has retired.

Noch ohne Team sind: DL Nicolas Williams, LB Justin Hollins, Safety Dean Marlowe, WR Alex Erickson, RB Joshua Kelley, CB Essang Bassey, Center Cameron Tom, LB Blake Lynch, CB A.J. Uzodinma, RT Andrew Trainer und Safety Raheem Layne.

Offensive: Justin Herbert is an absolute top quarterback. I definitely believe he can win a Super Bowl with the right team. The Chargers shouldn’t have any problems here.

It’s a different story at WR. Joshua Palmer and DJ Chark aren’t bad, but it’s very bad when they’re your best receivers. No Chargers receiver caught for 600 yards last season. You have some solid receivers, maybe some that are a little more than solid, but no really good ones.

Gus Edwards is definitely a reinforcement at RB. But there is nothing behind him for a long time. Isaiah Spiller only had 37 yards last season, the worst thing is that that is the second best value for a running back on the Chargers’ current roster. With JK Dobbins, however, there is at least hope that something could happen. Hayden Hurst should take over at TE; he is not a bad man, but not a top man either.

Defense: Safety Derwin Jones is the only player with over 100 tackles. Newcomer Perryman is in second place with 76 and is already far behind.

Things are looking better in terms of sacks. LB Khalil Mack is still a monster and had 17 last season. Bud Dupree with 6.5 and LB Joey Bosa with 6.5 also have good numbers.

However, things are looking catastrophic when it comes to interceptions. In the current roster, all players combined managed a mere six interceptions last season. Safety Alohi Gilman and CB Asante Samuel are the best with just two.

Strengths: With Justin Herbert, they still have a really good quarterback. Jim Harbaugh is obviously an upgrade over the overwhelmed Brandon Staley. That brings a sense of optimism. The clearing out of the roster was necessary.

Weaknesses: The offense is a disaster, with the exception of Herbert. One good running back, otherwise very, very average or even less than that. This could be a very frustrating season for Justin Herbert. And the defense isn’t particularly good either. Khalil Mack will make his sacks, but other than that?

Forecast: Let’s not kid ourselves: The Chargers are rebuilding. Something may emerge in the future, but that will definitely take time. Since the Broncos also have big problems, third place may be possible, but definitely not more than that
