The UAE Civil Aviation announced on Friday that an AeroGulf helicopter had crashed into the sea, indicating that a search was underway for the helicopter’s crew, which consisted of two pilots.
The Civil Aviation Authority added that the two pilots whose plane crashed in the sea were Egyptian and South African.
According to what was reported by the official news agency “WAM”, the Air Accident Investigation Sector of the General Authority of Civil Aviation said that the Authority received, at approximately 20:30 pm yesterday, Thursday, September 7, 2023, a report of the crash of a Bell 212 helicopter, belonging to Aerogulf. Bearing the registration mark A6-ALD, it was at sea with two pilots of Egyptian and South African nationality on board, on a night training flight that took off from Al Maktoum International Airport.
The sector added in a statement that search and rescue teams recovered the wreckage, and the search is still ongoing for the plane’s crew, and the air accident investigation team has moved to the site.
AeroGulf, the helicopter’s owner, described the flight as “routine training operations between Al Maktoum International Airport and a marine platform.”
The company said in its statement: “We are working with aviation authorities and doing everything in our power to collect information as quickly as possible. At this moment, our thoughts and prayers are with our crew and their families.”
