Search for Survivors Underway in Alexandria After Property Collapses in Video

During the early hours of Thursday, a 4-storey building collapsed in Alexandria, Egypt as paramedics scoured the rubble for any trapped individuals. An official confirmed that 3 people were rescued from the wreckage. Alexandria’s Governorate received notification of the collapse from the local police department in the West District, stating that the property was located in Al-Talafari Street in Al-Wardian area in the Mina Al-Basal. Sahar Shaaban, the head of West Alexandria district, was on the scene and stated that the governorate, civil defense agencies, and ambulances immediately began the search for survivors. Preliminary information indicates that less than 10 people occupied the now-collapsed building, and although 3 were rescued, their condition is unknown. The search efforts will remain in high gear until authorities confirm that there are no remaining victims. The building, which was over 3 years old, was deemed unsafe and scheduled to be demolished since 2018.

A 4-storey building collapsed in the city of Alexandria, in northern Egypt, following midnight on Thursday, while paramedics were searching for people trapped under the rubble.

A local official confirmed to “Sky News Arabia” that 3 people had been rescued from under the rubble of the building.

And the concerned authorities in Alexandria Governorate received a notification from the Police Rescue of the collapse of a property in Al-Talafari Street in Al-Wardian area in the Mina Al-Basal Police Department, which is affiliated with the West District of the governorate.

The head of West Alexandria district, Sahar Shaaban, who was present at the site of the accident, told Sky News Arabia:

• Immediately following receiving the communication, the leaders of the governorate, civil defense agencies and ambulances moved to the property site to search for survivors.

• The property has completely collapsed, and preliminary information indicated that there were less than 10 people who lived there, but it is not clear who was present at the moment of the collapse.

• 3 people were extracted from under the rubble and taken by ambulance to the hospital, and there has been no news regarding their health so far.

• The search for others is being intensified, and the equipment will not leave the place until it is confirmed that there are no victims under the rubble.

• The property is old and dilapidated, consisting of a ground floor and 3 high floors, and a removal order has been issued for it since 2018.
