During a five-hour search, the FBI found a confidential document in the home of ex-President Trump’s former Vice President Pence. Documents with a confidentiality notice had already been secured from him in January.

During a search of former US Vice President Mike Pence’s home in Carmel, Indiana, the FBI found another document marked as confidential. The FBI also seized six other unmarked pages.

The Justice Department conducted a thorough, unhindered search of Pence’s home for five hours, his adviser Devin O’Malley said. The search was carried out in consultation with the conservative politician’s lawyers, also reported by US media such as the “Washington Post” and the news channel CNN. Pence, who is considered a possible candidate for the 2024 presidential election, was in California to visit family.

Documents found in January

Confidential papers were found at Pence’s home in January. You are now in FBI custody. Pence’s lawyer had spoken of a “small number of documents marked as non-disclosure” that were accidentally packed and transported to the Vice President’s home at the end of President Donald Trump’s term in office.

“While I was not aware that this classified information was in our private home,” Pence said. “But let me get one thing straight: this classified information shouldn’t have been there.”

Also found in Biden

Secret documents were also found on the current US President Joe Biden. According to Pence’s attorney, after these finds became known, Pence hired an attorney to review documents at his Indiana home as a precautionary measure.

At the end of January, the National Archives wrote to former US presidents and their deputies asking them to check their personal documents again. The law requires that records created or received by the President are the property of the US government and are maintained by the National Archives at the end of the term.

Pence was Trump’s deputy, who took hundreds of classified items to his home in Florida after his term in office and did not release them even when requested by the National Archives. The FBI therefore obtained a search warrant for Trump’s private property last summer.
