After days of research, Australian police admitted on Thursday that they had found no trace of Belgian traveler Céline Cremer, who was discovering Tasmania, in the south of the country, by car and has not given any sign of life since 17 last June.
Inspector Anthea Maingay had expressed the growing concern of the police services regarding the 31-year-old Belgian national, while the climatic conditions are deteriorating. “Unfortunately, there have been no further signs since his car was found in the parking lot of the Philosopher Falls Track on Tuesday,” northwest of the island, said the policewoman.
Local police have deployed field teams, drones and helicopters to carry out searches, while sub-zero temperatures, snowfall and precipitation make this task more difficult, the inspector said. “Unfortunately, we have received medical advice assuring that the recent conditions do not allow Céline’s alleged time spent in the wilderness to survive”added the inspector.
Police are looking for a witness
This Saturday, investigators are looking for a key witness in the disappearance of Céline Cremer. A call in particular published on social networks indicates that the police want to find a hiker, who was at the scene of the disappearance of the Liègeoise. “Police would like to speak to a walker who was at Philosopher Falls at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2023. This person has no problem, we urge you to get in touch as you may be able to help us establish Ms. Cremer’s movements before ‘she won’t disappear’can we read on the Facebook page of the Tasmanian police.
The hike to the waterfalls of Philosopher Falls is regarding 4.5 hours by road from Tasmania’s capital, Hobart, and regarding ten kilometers from the town of Waratah, where the 30-year-old was last seen on June 17. The last signal from his phone was on June 20, according to Australian police.
It now believes that the tourist’s vehicle has been parked at the start of the hike since at least June 20 and that the Belgian was only equipped for a day of light walking on this trail in the rainforest.
The Australian police, the Belgian Embassy in Australia and the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are in contact with the relatives of Céline Cremer. They had come to the attention of the Australian authorities on Monday, worried regarding the lack of news from the traveler.
