Wilson, the Special Forces rescue dog, is still being sought by his companions, following he broke free from the leash that attached him to his canine guide, soldier Cristian David Lara, and went into the jungle on the trail of Lesly, Soleiny, Tien Noriel (5) and Cristin. The Armed Forces have sent new messages this week regarding how the canine rescue operation is going.
“Under the premise “No one is left behind” our commander #GeneralGiraldo, @FuerzasMilCol has ordered to maintain the search for Wilson, the canine command that helped rescue the 4 minors lost in the jungle”, they published on networks this June 20.
And this June 21 they issued a new message. “We are going to do what we have always done: Save lives with every mission! advance the @FuerzasMilCol in search of our canine Commando Wilson, who, fulfilling the mission of finding the children in the jungle, got away from the troop and got lost”.
How is the search for the dog Wilson in the Guaviare jungle going? Military forces gave information
A total of 70 men from the Special Forces travel through the thick jungle of Caquetá and Guaviare in order to locate Wilson. Within the strategies that were implemented, two female canines in heat were inserted into the jungle to activate Wilson’s attraction, food was placed at strategic points that allow it to stay strong, and clothing for the guide in places where the troops can reach.
“This phase II of the #OperationHope keep it up. He won’t stop until Wilson is located. This hero who contributed to the rescue of the children found on June 9 and must return to his family from Commandos,” the military said in the operation.
“This complex terrain is characterized by its rugged geography, yet it has not stopped in search of Wilson, the two-year-old Belgian shepherd who in his eagerness to find the children gets away from the troop and gets lost.”

Meanwhile, the Army assured that they have found clues from Wilson that would indicate that he is still alive and which would give clues to his location.
Colonel Gustavo Narváez Orozco, commander of the Special Forces No. 1 regiment, told Semana magazine that until June 6, the uniformed men in the explorations ran into him head-on.
“On May 18, he got lost, following his guide gave him the order to go into the jungle to search and he did not return. It was very strange because the dog is trained for that, to go deep and return to where he loved her. On May 20, our staff observed the dog, the handler was approaching it and the canine, with an unusual reaction, fled and we did not see it once more. Until June 6, when we ran into it head-on in our explorations. Who saw him, saw him a little skinny. They tried to come over with food, calls and a dog that we brought from the Civil Defense, they sent her to look for a game for Wilson, entertain him, get closer and locate him. As soon as he saw us, he fled and that was the last time we had contact with him,” said Gustavo Narváez.
He added that one of the reasons why Wilson has not returned with his guide is because in the jungle there are animals such as alligators, jaguars, panthers, and anacondas. “Any one of these beasts can intimidate our dog, scare him and he changes his behavior,” he said.
In the same way, the weather conditions have been erasing the trail that the dog has left along the way, which makes tracking it more complicated.
Luis Acosta, National Coordinator of the Indigenous Guard, told Red+Noticias: ”I believe that Wilson was a savior. Where we found the last tracks, we found canine tracks. He blew up on a soldier and I think he got there with his sense of smell, but he also got bogged down. Wilson had a lot to do with being able to find them. I’m sure of that. He accompanied them and was with them ”.
The soldiers present in the territory are now focused on recovering Wilson and the order comes directly from the General Commander of the Military Forces, General Helder Fernán Giraldo Bonilla, who has asked the commander of the Joint Special Operations Command, General Pedro Sánchez, do everything in your power to bring the canine back.
“The search is not over. Our premise: no one is left behind. The soldiers continue the operation to find Wilson,” said the Army, which shows in the publication some images of the search and rescue canine.

Finally, the commander of the Special Forces Regiment No. 1 said he had “hope and encouragement” to find the dog alive in the Guaviare jungle following several days that it had been missing and following around six days of being seen by the rescuers.
“The clue we have is that only three days ago we saw the dog. That gives us great encouragement and hope. That the dog has managed to survive in the jungle and helped the children. This animal is educated to eat its concentrate, but it has its instinct that wakes up at certain times. Hopefully he was woken up in the jungle with prey animals that he was able to hunt. Faith intact and hope also to recover Wilson ”, he concluded.
