American actor and filmmaker Sean Penn asked billionaires to finance the supply of weapons to Ukraine for “500 million dollars”, in the middle of the Russian siege that began on February 24 last.
Penn estimates that two squadrons of American F-15 or F-16 fighters, “that’s twelve planes,” and a quick three-week training of Ukrainian pilots would cost regarding $300 million.
According to the actor, these fighters have “better technology” than the Russian Mig or Su. In addition, he requested “another $200 million” for missile defense systems.

“Of course there are add-ons in weaponry and creative runway maintenance etc but it seems worth thinking regarding,” he added in another tweet.
Nevertheless, he did not provide details on how he expects his privately funded initiative to comply with US control for arms exports.
Previously, United States and several European countries have already sent hundreds of millions of dollars worth of military equipment to Ukraine, although they have so far refused to supply it with fighter jets.

In February of this year, Penn was in the Ukraine making a documentary when Russia began his military operation. While, at the end of 2021, the filmmaker met with members of the Ukrainian Army near the front line in the Donetsk region.
Likewise, on the eve of the gala for the Oscar Awards 2022the actor demanded that the organizers of the event grant him Volodimir Zelensky a platform to speak during the ceremony and urged the guests to boycott the event if the Ukrainian president’s intervention was vetoed.
He also threatened to destroy his own statuettes if his request was not met. In the end, the president was not invited to participate.
