Can the Seahawks Run Defense Continue Dominance Against Breece Hall?
The Seattle Seahawks have thrived defensively in recent games, showcasing a particularly stifling run defense.
They stifled the Rams’ rushing efforts before the bye week, limiting them to just 68 yards and a paltry 2.8 yards per carry.
Against the Cardinals, they held them to a mere 49 rushing yards, containing James Connor to a mere eight yards on seven carries. The 49ers managed to gain 131 yards on the ground, but a significant portion of that can be attributed to scrambles from Brock Purdy. Seattle also showed demonstrably more success at containing the 49ers’ star running back, Christian McCaffrey, than in previous matchups. They confined him to just 79 yards on 19 carries.
The Hall Challenge
On paper, the Jets’ running game, ranked 30th in yardage, 31st in attempts, and 22nd in yards per rush attempt, might not appear particularly daunting.
But the explosive Breece Hall, in his third year in the league, will force the Seahawks to be vigilant against both the run and the pass. When you look at his average yards per carry, Hall has consistently averaged at least 4.9 yards over the past four games.
Hall, drafted just five spots ahead of Kenneth Walker III, boasts a skill set comparable to anything Walker brings to the table: an ability to make a big play with every touch.
Hall has only reached the 100-yard mark once this season, but with 632 total rushing yards and four touchdowns, his impact is undeniable. In addition to his rushing prowess, Hall brings the versatility of a dual-threat back, racking up 401 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
“He has incredible breakaway speed and runs with a lot of power,” Seahawks defensive coordinator Clint Macdonald said. “How he takes certain routes isn’t particularly unique, but it’s characteristic of his running style. We have to do excellent preparation throughout the week. His ability after the catch and his breakaway speed make him dangerous. We play against great players every week; we have to adapt our game system accordingly, but it will definitely require the work of all eleven defenders. We have to find the right angles, tackle solidly, and get to the ball.”
Finding Their Footing: The Seahawks’ Rush Offense Seeks Consistency
On the other side of the ball, the Seahawks yearn to establish a consistent running game after battling inconsistency this season. However, offensive coordinator Shane Waldron and Macdonald both noted encouraging signs, particularly in efficient runs late in the game against the Cardinals, leading to a crucial game-sealing drive. Despite these glimpses of strength, the Seahawks still rank 28th in both rushing yards and yards per carry (3.9) overall.
McCaffrey, who also happens to be the bring人的. “I think the most important thing is that we were able to run the ball when we needed to,” said Waldron. “At the end of the game, when it mattered most, I think we executed best. That’s the part you have to build on: when it really mattered, in critical situations, and we hold the ball for eight minutes. We had to do it. That gives us a lot of hope that we’re on the right track.”

**Interviewer:** The Seahawks defense has been looking incredibly strong lately, particularly against the run. Can they keep this momentum going against a talented back like Breece Hall?

**Interviewer:** Yes, it’s been impressive. But Breece Hall presents a different challenge. He’s a truly explosive runner, averaging close to 5 yards per carry in his last few games. How do the Seahawks contain him?
**Alex Reed:** It won’t be easy. Hall is a dynamic player. He’s got speed, power, and the ability to make defenders miss. The Seahawks will have to be disciplined in their tackling and avoid getting caught out of position.
**Interviewer:** What are some key matchups to watch for?
**Alex Reed:** I’d keep a close eye on the Seahawks’ interior defensive line against the Jets’ offensive line. If the Seahawks can win those battles up front, they can disrupt Hall’s runs before they even get started.
**Interviewer:**
And what about Hall’s receiving threat out of the backfield?
**Alex Reed:** That’s a good point. Hall has proven himself to be a viable receiving option as well. The Seahawks will need to be aware of that and make sure they’re accounting for him on passing downs.
**Interviewer:** This game promises to be a great test for the Seahawks’ defense. Thanks for sharing your insights, Alex Reed. We look forward to seeing how this matchup unfolds.
**Alex Reed:** My pleasure.
