Sea of Thieves: Bad news, a big Microsoft exclusive feature falls apart

Game news Sea of Thieves: Bad news, a big Microsoft exclusive feature falls apart

If on February 1st, Sea of Thieves had the right to launch its Season 6, today it is rather bad news that falls on Microsoft’s pirate game…

The Arena will no longer be part of the game

Since its launch, Sea of Thieves has continued to welcome new content, including entire events dedicated to big licenses like Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean. However, in a few days, from March 10, content will be removed, since the Arena mode will close its doors.

As we said before, only 2% of our players’ time is spent in the arena on a regular basis, and that’s never really changed. We are aware of the criticisms we may receive here that we have not invested enough in the Arena to give it the best chance of success alongside the continued growth of The Adventure. The reality is that as a new platform, Arena has unfortunately never been popular enough to warrant focusing our creative efforts there, beyond our initial efforts to refine the experience to attract an audience. wider.

Sea of Thieves: Bad news, a big Microsoft exclusive feature falls apart

Conclusion, the Arena game mode will be purely and simply removed from March 10. But since Rare doesn’t like to do things by halves, the studio also decided to remove the achievements that are linked to this game mode so as not to frustrate the completionists.

After extensive investigation, we were unable to find a fair and elegant way to reallocate Arena achievements to Sea of Thieves’ Adventure mode. We didn’t want to compromise that didn’t respect the efforts of players who fully met the original criteria. That’s why, in addition to removing Arena as a game mode, we’re also removing the achievements that come with it. These will be marked as “Legacy” achievements on Xbox, and will no longer be viewable or unlockable on the Steam platform following March 10.

Gifts for everyone

To counter this misfortune, Rare will offer from March 10 several rewards normally linked to Arena mode to all players who have reached Sea Dogs Rank 5. Indeed, they will leave with 5 Arena ship cosmetics. Players who have reached Rank 50, meanwhile, will get “The Good Boy” ship cosmetic. A blessing in disguise…
