Sea of Stars ‘ Dawn of Equinox update coming in November

Sabotage Studio has been steadily continuing development on Sea of Stars, although the game is actually set to debut in the summer of 2023. This includes plans to produce and roll out an extensive content update that will even see a range of new features and additions.

It’s called the Dawn of Equinox update, and it will arrive ahead of the Throes of the Watchmaker DLC in early 2025. It looks set to be used as the basis for introducing a long-awaited and welcome range of quality of life and mechanical changes, and Sabotage has now outlined exactly what this will include.

We can expect a new local co-op experience, an improved combat system, a tweaked prologue, additional cinematic scenes, useful speedrunning relics, difficulty presets, improved parrot relics, localization of Quebec, and a few other smaller QoL changes initiated.

Dawn of Equinox will launch on November 12th on all platforms where the game is available, and you can see the exact outline of planned changes below.

  • New Local Co-op: Sea of Stars’ story will be fully playable by up to three players, with allies traveling together across the world and mastering new co-op timed hit combat mechanics.
  • Combat 2.0: The addition of Mystical Locks brings a new circle of gameplay, revealing ways to break enemy spells every time you encounter a new type in combat. In addition to adding “reveal” functionality to some playable actors’ special skills, combo points now persist after combat, providing new ways to unlock certain encounters, or to test enemies for different damage types to reveal their locks. Additionally, comprehensive balance adjustments have been made to reflect these new changes and player feedback since launch.
  • Improved Prologue: Implementing combat for the younger versions of our heroes, the updated flow eliminates the flashback structure from their childhood and includes the action directly from the prologue.
  • Bonus Cinematic Scene: An all-new cutscene has been added to highlight a key moment from the original adventure called “The Water Path.”
  • Speedrun Mode Relics: This new project kicks off a series of features that will be useful for those looking to set new personal bests or world records.
  • Difficulty Presets: When starting a new game, there are now three difficulty options available, which are presets using the game’s Relics. New relics have also been added for quality of life and difficulty adjustments.
  • Improved Parrot Relic: Sea of Stars’ Secret Tracking Parrot has learned a few new tricks to better help players track down overlooked challenges and collectibles.
  • Quebec Localization: A comprehensive French-Canadian translation of Quebec’s finest Solstice Warriors.
  • Quality of Life Improvements: A series of general updates and improvements across Sea of Stars’ entire campaign.
