[OSEN=김보라 기자] (Continued from Interview ①) Director Kim Han-min (54) said regarding the casting of actor Kim Yun-seok (56) for the role of Yi Sun-sin, “I think there is a string of fate.”
In an interview for ‘Noryang: Sea of Death’ held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul on the morning of the 19th, director Kim Han-min said, “Kim Yun-seok said, ‘Will you play this role? ‘What if I don’t do it?’ I wanted to do it, but in the end, he took it. “I believe there is a thread of fate that connects the actor and the character,” he said regarding casting.
The movie ‘Noryang: Sea of Death’ (directed by Kim Han-min, provided by Ace Maker Movie Works Co., Ltd. and Lotte Entertainment, distributed by Lotte Entertainment and Ace Maker Movie Works Co., Ltd., and produced by Big Stone Pictures Co., Ltd.) is regarding the Japanese army trying to retreat from Joseon seven years following the outbreak of the Japanese Invasion of Korea. A war action masterpiece depicting the final battle of Admiral Yi Sun-sin to completely annihilate him.

This is the last part of the Yi Sun-shin Project trilogy, following ‘Roaring Currents’, which was released in July 2014, and ‘Hansan: Appearance of the Dragon’, which was released in July 2022. Previously, Choi Min-sik and Park Hae-il played the life of Yi Sun-sin in ‘Roaring Currents’ and ‘Hansan’, respectively.
Director Kim Han-min said, “In ‘Noryang,’ Yi Sun-sin is wise and wise at the same time. “Kim Yun-seok was a very rare actor who had both the appearance of a brave general and a wise general,” he said. “That’s true for me. “Especially when casting the lead actor, I feel a connection of fate and fate in that sense,” he emphasized.
