SDX Energy announces the start of drilling operations in the Gharb region

With a reservoir at a depth of around 1,108 meters, the well is the first in a series of two wells in the Gharb basin, scheduled for the third quarter of 2022, according to a press release from the British company.

While targeting the Guebbas Formation reservoir at approximately 1,108 meters, this well will fill the “remaining commitments on the Lalla Mimouna Sud concession”, adds the press release. This should allow SDX to continue to deliver gas to customers in accordance with contractual requirements, the British firm said.

According to the statement, SDX intends to launch up to three more drillings in Morocco between the fourth quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023.

“The success of SAK-1 would also open up a new area of exploration for us to the west of our existing production center, with several follow-up prospects having already been identified”the statement said.

As part of the initial phase of its 2021 drilling campaign, the British company last year completed the drilling of three wells in the Gharb basin in northeastern Morocco.

In 2020, SDX Energy experienced unexpected success when its OYF-2 and BMK-1 wells discovered commercial amounts of gas above pre-drill estimates.
