Adolescence is a crucial period for the development of social and emotional habits important for mental well-being. Factors such as exposure to adversity, social pressure from peers and social networks, exploration of their own identity, as well as socioeconomic problems constitute recognized risks to the mental health of minors.
To all this, we must add the pandemic situation experienced in recent years that has increased in 47% mental health disorders in childhood and youth; multiplying by three the cases of anxiety and depression since 2019, as warned by the Multidisciplinary Working Group on Mental Health in Children and Adolescents in Spain.
To help young people prevent risk situations, the Balia Foundation has drawn up, thanks to the Montemadrid Foundation and CaixaBank Social Action Call, a illustrated guide that will help take care of your mental health and that of the people around you. This is the third guide that the foundation publishes with an easy and attractive language to respond to the needs of adolescents in matters such as social media security and responsible consumption.
This year Balia wanted visualize and normalize mental disorders among the youth population and focus on prevention with the aim that this guide can help adolescents and their families to take care of their mental health and emotional well-being.
