Screening of the film “Sugaria” within the activities of the Naguib Mahfouz Festival

Within the activities of the Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz Festival, a Cairo cinema is showing seven restored films inspired by the literature of the late Mahfouz. Yesterday, the film “Sukkariyya” was shown, starring Yahya Shaheen, Mervat Amin, Nour Al-Sharif, Abdel Moneim Ibrahim, Tahia Karioca, Zahrat Al-Ula and Mahmoud Al-Meligy. The script and dialogue were written by Mamdouh Al-Laithi and directed by Hassan Al-Imam.

The film “Sukaria” deals with the interaction of individuals and families with social and political transformations and how they affect their lives and choices through the story of Ahmed Abdel Gawad’s family, who takes members of his descendants in different ways. Abdel Moneim chooses the religious direction in search of salvation, while Ahmed chooses the values ​​of the left in search of social justice.
