On an adjusted basis, Scotiabank reported earnings of $1.70 per share in its most recent quarter, down from adjusted earnings of $2.18 per share in the same quarter last year. last.

Analysts on average had expected adjusted earnings of $1.78 per share, according to forecasts compiled by financial markets data firm Refinitiv.

Scotiabank’s Canadian network posted net income attributable to shareholders of $1.06 billion in the second quarter, down from $1.18 billion in the same quarter last year, while its banking operations international companies posted net income attributable to shareholders of $642 million, up from $605 million a year earlier.

The bank said its global wealth management division posted net income attributable to shareholders of $353 million, compared to $407 million in the same quarter last year.

Scotiabank’s Global Banking and Markets group gained $401 million, down from $488 million in the second quarter last year.

In the other business category, Scotiabank posted a loss of $323 million in the most recent quarter, compared with a loss of $10 million a year earlier.
