It is a collision rarely seen in Brussels traffic: this Thursday, May 18, 2023, the driver of a scooter found himself stuck between two STIB trams. The images are chilling and have even questioned the emergency services as to the circumstances of the incident.
The facts took place around 7:45 p.m. on Chaussée de Helmet in Schaerbeek. “Firefighters, medical services, Brussels North police zone and STIB service intervened for the driver of a scooter who had managed to get stuck between 2 STIB trams”, relates Walter Derieuw, spokesperson for the men of the fire.
It was not easy to get the driver off the hook. “The two sides of the trams were depressed by a hydraulic spreader to free the victim. Throughout the rescue operations, the injured person was conscious. At first sight, he suffered from injuries to the leg and elbow”, details the spokesperson, who assures that “the vital prognosis is, a proiri, not engaged”. It was probably a hair’s breadth.
The circumstances of the accident are the subject of the usual police findings.
