Scientists say the black hole’s mass is 30 billion times that of the sun

With the help of gravitational lensing and a supercomputer, scientists have succeeded in finding one of the largest black holes in the universe ever discovered, a supermassive black hole with a mass of 30 billion times the mass of the sun, NBC reported on the 1st (local time).

Astronomers at Durun University in the UK used gravitational lensing and the DiRAC COSMA8 supercomputer to find a massive black hole 30 billion times the mass of the sun, millions of light-years away from Earth.

Scientists have used gravitational lensing to view nearby galaxies as giant magnifying glasses, allowing them to closely observe how black holes bend light hundreds of millions of light-years from Earth.

The scientific community believes that there is a supermassive black hole at the center of each galaxy, and the mass can reach 10 to 40 billion times that of the sun.

Scientists believe that when the universe was young billions of years ago, several massive galaxies coalesced.

However, these black holes are difficult to observe and their origins are unclear.

Cosmologist Nightingale said that due to limitations in past observation methods, scientists might usually only find black holes in an ‘active state’. It will give you more opportunities to explore.”

Scientists have previously discovered the existence of a supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy and named it Sagittarius A*, which is regarding 4.3 million times the mass of the Sun.

In May of last year, an international team of scientists released the first images of Sagittarius A*.

In 2019, an international team of scientists published the first ever photo of a black hole. The video taken at that time was a black hole at the center of the M87 galaxy.
