Sciensano’s disturbing study: cannabis and cocaine use was boosted by covid!

Successive confinements have shaken up the drug consumption habits of Belgians.

The health crisis has exacerbated drug consumption in Belgium. It appears that in terms of substances consumed, cannabis comes first, followed by psychostimulants such as ecstasy, cocaine and amphetamines. The products with the greatest increase are cocaine and ketamine. The cities of Antwerp and Brussels are the most affected by the phenomenon.

A study by Sciensano, the scientific institute of public health, looked at drug use since the onset of the health crisis. This study highlights its impact on drug consumption and the drug market in Belgium through an online survey conducted over three periods in 2020 in which more than 8,000 respondents participated.
