Unlike its well-known predecessors, developer Game Freak is using an open-world principle for the first time in “Pokémon Legends: Arceus”. The new way of playing is somewhat reminiscent of the action role-playing games of the “Monster Hunter” series: instead of random battles in the tall grass, the Pokémon now run freely through the landscape. Players fight, catch and tame them as usual.
The behavior of the different Pokémon differs in each case – so filling your own Pokédex becomes a little more challenging.
A step into the Pokémon Early Days
As a prequel set long before the events of “Diamant” and “Perl” in the Sinnoh region, “Arceus” takes a more old-fashioned approach than usual: the Pokédex becomes a notebook, Pokémon are stored analogously once more, and even the Pokéballs for capturing the creatures are still made of wood. There are also no arenas in which orders can be won in the new part. Instead, it goes on the hunt for the gold shining noble Pokémon, which are not easy to capture.
