Open science and the quest for profit do not mix. Faced with the appetite for scientific journals, defenders of free access to knowledge are leading the fight. At the end of April, the entire editorial board of the journals Neuroimage and Neuroimage: Reports, published by the giant Elsevier, resigned. The forty publishers denounce the increase in publication fees charged to researchers to publish their work in open access (free for readers), increased from 3,300 dollars to 3,450 dollars. Faced with this quest for “unethical and unsustainable” profits, the team announces in a press release that it is launching a competing journal in neuroimaging, but this time non-profit.
