Nino Schurter stood on a World Cup podium in cross country for the 4th time this season. Despite a flat tire, the 37-year-old Grison finished second in Les Gets, behind Frenchman Victor Koretzky. The St. Gallois Marcel Guerrini surprised by placing fourth.
Schurter, who had to start from the fourth row following abandoning the Short Race, was already in second position when he had to stop in the Tech-Zone at the end of the sixth of eight loops, thus losing temporarily its position. Subsequently, he regained second place in a sovereign manner.
Behind Schurter, who consolidated his lead in the overall World Cup standings, Marcel Guerrini achieved his best career result. The 28-year-old St. Gallen placed fourth, just five seconds from his first place on the podium. Her best World Cup result so far was an 8th place a year ago in Val di Sole, a week following finishing 5th at the World Championships.
Mathias Flückiger, Joel Roth and Vital Albin ranked 9th, 10th and 13th respectively. Roth, double European under-23 champion, thus equaled his best result of the season.
