German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has welcomed Canada’s intention to return the turbine, which is essential for the full operation of the North Stream-1 gas pipeline.
“We welcome the decision of our Canadian friends and allies,” Schultz was quoted by De Welt newspaper as saying.
Canadian Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson announced earlier that “Canada will grant a limited-time, revocable permit to Siemens Canada to allow the repaired “North Stream-1″ turbine (gas pumping unit) to be returned to Germany.”
On June 14, the Russian company “Gazprom” announced that it had to reduce gas supplies through the “North Stream-1” due to the failure to return the gas-pumping units “turbines” by Siemens-Canada, following repairs and identification of technical malfunctions of the engines.
Siemens Canada claims that North Shell’s gas turbines, once repaired, cannot be returned to Germany from Montreal, due to Canada’s sanctions once morest Russia.
