A major emergency deployment has paralyzed Boulevard du Séminaire since the end of the day today (Wednesday). The driver of a school bus full of students crashed into a series of cars stopped at a red light at the corner of Frontenac Street.

Two people were injured in one of the six crashed cars. The firefighters managed to free the victims using their extrication pliers. Both people were taken to hospital, but their lives are not feared.

Closing

The pileup occurred at 5:24 p.m., heading north. Since then, Boulevard du Séminaire has been closed in the north direction, between Boulevard Gouin and Rue Saint-Georges.

Several students were on the bus at the time of the accident. None of them were injured.

Accusation

The bus driver, an 82-year-old man, was arrested by the police. He might face a charge of hit-and-run causing injury because he continued driving following the impact.

The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu Police Department is still on scene this evening. He requested the collaboration of the Sûreté du Québec to reconstruct the scene.
