Scholz’s assistant for economic affairs called the refusal of Russian gas a huge stress

Joerg Kukis, assistant to the German chancellor for economic affairs, said the decision to stop importing gas from Russia was a huge stress for Germany. According to him, it turned out to be very difficult to replace the Russian energy source.

“No, it was a huge stress. More than half of the volumes came from Germany, so it was obviously very difficult to replace this,” said Jörg Kukis at the CERAWeek international energy conference in Houston (quoted from “RIA Novosti”).

Germany completely refused gas supplies from Russia in September 2022. The country has replaced Russian exports with pipeline gas from Norway and the Netherlands, LNG and coal supplies, Bloomberg wrote. According to the German Institute for Economic Research, the transformation of the German energy market against the backdrop of sanctions cost €100 billion.
