Scholz Rejects Musk’s AfD Endorsement

Early parliamentary elections are expected in the country on February 23, and Sholtz hopes to win a second term in office.

True, polls show that the opposition Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc is in the lead, while the chancellor’s center-left Social Democrats (SPD) are significantly behind.

The AfD is in second place in the polls, but the party’s candidate for chancellor, Alice Weidel, has no real chance of becoming head of the federal government, as other parties refuse to cooperate with it.

Early Friday morning on his social network X, Musk said: “Only the AfD can save Germany.”

Veidele posted a video on the “X” platform in which she thanked Musk and declared that her party “really is the only alternative for our country, our last chance, if you ask me.”

When asked about Musk’s comment, Scholz said at the press conference: “We have freedom of opinion – this also applies to multi-billionaires, but freedom of opinion also means that you can say things that are not correct and do not contain good political advice.”

“I emphasize that all German democratic parties look at it differently,” he added.

Earlier on Friday, the government was asked if Musk’s comment would have any implications for the government’s presence on the “X” platform.

The German government has raised concerns about how X has evolved since Musk took over the platform, government spokeswoman Christiana Hoffmann said.

But the government has also repeatedly concluded that it will remain on the platform “because it is an important medium for reaching and informing people, and it would create significant disadvantages if the government or the chancellor are not represented on significant social media,” Hoffmann explained.

## A Nuclear Option? Elon Musk’s Endorsement Ignites German Election Debate

**Archyde:** Welcome back to Archyde Insights. Today, we’re diving deep into the chaotic waters of the upcoming German federal election, after a shocking endorsement sent shockwaves through the country. Joining us to unpack this political earthquake is Dr.Anna Schmidt, a leading German political analyst. Welcome to the show, Dr. Schmidt.

**dr. Schmidt:** Thank you for having me. Its certainly a fascinating time to be observing German politics.

**Archyde:** Indeed. Let’s start with the basics. German voters head to the polls on February 23, with Chancellor Scholz vying for a second term. how are things looking for him?

**Dr. Schmidt:** Well, the polls paint a rather challenging picture for Scholz adn his Social Democrats (SPD). The opposition CDU/CSU bloc is enjoying a comfortable lead, leaving the SPD trailing behind.

**Archyde:** And where does the far-right AfD stand in all of this?

**Dr. Schmidt:** The AfD is currently polling in second place. While Alice Weidel, thier chancellor candidate, doesn’t have a realistic chance of leading the government due to other parties refusing to cooperate with them, their strong showing is concerning for many.

**Archyde:** Which brings us to the bombshell. This week, Elon Musk declared on social media, “Only the AfD can save Germany.” How has this unexpected endorsement been received?

**Dr. Schmidt:** The reaction has been polarizing, to say the least. while some have echoed musk’s sentiment, many have condemned it as reckless and irresponsible. Weidel herself praised Musk, calling the AfD “the last chance” for Germany. The chancellor, Scholz, was quick to dismiss Musk’s statement, refusing to engage with the controversy directly.

**Archyde:** Dr. Schmidt, do you think musk’s comments will have a significant impact on the election?

**Dr.Schmidt:** It’s tough to say definitively. Some argue that it further legitimizes the afd in the eyes of certain voters, while others believe it will backfire, pushing more moderate voters away from the party. the coming weeks will tell us much about the true impact of this unlikely endorsement.

**Archyde:** A fascinating and complex situation unfolding in Germany. Dr. Schmidt, thank you for offering your insights and helping us understand the dynamics at play.
