Schöffmann takes bronze at Junior World Championships

Carinthian Pia Schöffmann won bronze in the parallel slalom at the Snowboard Junior World Championships in Valmalenco (ITA) on Friday. Sabine Schöffmann’s 18-year-old cousin prevailed in the small final once morest her ÖSV teammate Martina Ankele. Gold went to Japan’s Tsubaki Miki.

Schöffmann said following the competition: “There was no other race this season with as much snow as today, but I coped well with the difficult conditions. There were some extremely deep troughs in the piste, but I still did good runs. I’m really happy to have won my first medal at a Junior World Championships – that’s really cool.”

Kraner placed in the top ten

In addition to Schöffmann and fourth-placed Ankele, Miriam Weis from Lower Austria (11th) was a third ÖSV boarder who made the final decision in the top 16.

In the men’s category, Styrian Christoph Karner and Julian Treffler finished eighth and eleventh. The world title went to Canadian Ben Heldman, who won ahead of Italy’s Fabian Lantschner and Bulgaria’s Tervel Samfirow.
