Scherchos for his son: “I admire him because he is a fighter”

A touching post was made by the Minister of State, Akis Skertsos, regarding the serious health problem his son faced in 2022 and the difficult times his family experienced.

Two years ago, the Minister of State spoke and wrote on Facebook about the surgery his son had to undergo. “Constant vomiting, severe abdominal pain and intestinal obstruction led to the diagnosis that our little one had a congenital malposition of his intestines which led to acute torsion and ultimately an inevitable, difficult three-hour surgery.”

Akis Skertsou’s post

“About 2 years ago this guy was coming out of an ordeal that knocked him to his knees for a while but didn’t break him. Which could have stuck him on many levels, but instead taught him to fight with difficulties, not to give up and come out stronger.

I remember with emotion that little boy in the photo after the difficult surgery, with the stoic look and restrained smile, and I can’t believe my eyes.

In his place I see today with pride a healthy and strong teenager who is becoming a new man day by day. Who steps firmly on his feet and takes bold but not bold steps with the aim of small or bigger personal “peaks”.

I admire him because he is a fighter, with a clear mind and thinking, who fights with passion and soul for those and what he loves.

It reminds me every day, it reminds us all, that difficulties are in life and, yes, they can bend us for a while. But whether they will break us or whether we will manage to come out of them stronger is up to us. It is hidden in the stubbornness we will show to heal our weaknesses and adapt to the new situation we are called to face with faith and hope for the best and always with the help of those who share common values and goals with us.

Be strong my Billak. From your own generation we draw strength and inspiration to continue and correct the wrongs we carry from the past and hurt the present.

PS I owe you many summers now that we haven’t enjoyed together as much as we would like because of my own obligations and that I hope to find a way to repay you at some point.”
