A 62-year-old Swiss man was rescued following a kayaking accident in the Lammerklamm area.
A kayaking accident occurred on the Lammer in the Lammerklamm area in the municipality of Scheffau am Tennengebirge early on Saturday evening. A Swiss man was traveling on the Lammer with three other companions when his kayak turned sideways on a rock at a narrow section of the Lammer at around 6 p.m. and tipped over. According to the police accident report, the 62-year-old fell under water and was unable to free himself. One of his companions, a 28-year-old German who was just a few meters from the scene of the accident in his kayak, came to his aid. He managed to recover the kayak of the already unconscious man and pull it to shore, where the victim came to under his own power.
Due to the narrowness and inaccessibility of the gorge, the accident victim was rescued with the rescue helicopter Martin 1 using a rope and flown to the Schwarzach Clinic with injuries of an undetermined degree.
