Greens: More cash registers, better prevention and expansion of psychosocial care
Vienna (OTS) – “Austria has a very good healthcare system. Unfortunately, this has been affected in the past by the decades of inactivity of the responsible ministers. The people in the country are currently feeling the effects. But this federal government accepts this challenge. Health Minister Johannes Rauch and we Greens are working together for real improvements in the system. The package presented today by the federal government provides further important decisions. These bring a quickly noticeable improvement for the population,” says Ralph Schallmeiner, health spokesman for the Greens, on the Ministerial Council speech in the health sector presented today.
The scope of the resolution is particularly important to Schallmeiner. The Council of Ministers lecture addresses topics such as better prevention, more cash registers, including measures to fill them, or the extremely important topic of mental health. The latter in particular is an important concern for Schallmeiner: “We have thousands of highly trained clinical psychologists who are not fully included in the social security system. These are equated with psychotherapeutic treatment and medical assistance. In this way, the social security system can quickly negotiate an overall contract for clinical-psychological treatment and the range of psychosocial support will increase significantly as a result. Just like the continuation of “Healthy from the Crisis” as a lighthouse project in the care of children and young people is a central concern. Ultimately, this is regarding the mental health of our children and the generations to come.”
Equally important are the measures to strengthen the private sector. The Federal Government will intervene to support this, and both quickly get new checkout offices off the ground together with the social security funds and also make them correspondingly attractive. “A strong established sector ultimately relieves the burden on hospitals and outpatient clinics. Accordingly, all stakeholders must be willing to leave encrusted structures behind us. In any case, the federal government’s approach is one that can and will take effect quickly and does not want to curtail other professions like other proposals on the table,” says Schallmeiner regarding the measures relating to the expansion of the established sector.
In any case, the health package presented to the public today is an important further step towards eliminating the omissions of the past. “Due to the refusal of individual stakeholders to innovate and the constant small-small in the system, we are in a situation today that nobody can understand. It is all the more important that we tackle these challenges, change structures and strive for sustainable solutions. Not only do I expect the same from the stakeholders in the healthcare system – from the medical association to the federal states and social security – but also the patients in Austria expect the same. With the amendment of the Primary Care Act, we have shown that we are determined to break up encrusted structures. The same applies to the many other construction sites in the system, right through to financial equalization, which is central to the question of security of supply,” says Schallmeiner.
