“Scary fast”: what can we expect from Apple’s next event?

2023-10-24 21:32:09

Less than a week before Halloween, Apple took (almost) everyone by surprise by announcing the event “Scary fast” (“Frighteningly fast”, in free translation), which will take place next Monday at… 9pm (Brasília time)! ????

Although the details of the products that will be announced are — in theory — kept under lock and key, several clues and insights of market experts can help us draw a scenario of what we should see at the event.

For example: the focus of the event should not be new iPads — which should only arrive in March — but rather new Macs (something that is practically certain now with the release of the invitation art/animation, which features the stylized Finder icon). Previously skeptical about the arrival of laptops in 2023, the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo now points to new MacBooks Pro with the other big star of the show, the chip “M3”.

I believe the MacBook Pro line [com o chip] “M3” will be the focus of the October 30th event. I previously predicted that a release this year was unlikely due to limited shipments in Q4 2023 (less than 400-500k units total). If the new MacBook Pros launch in November or December, the limited supply will extend into the first quarter of 2024 unless demand weakens.

Mark Gurman (and Bloomberg) added more expectations, betting on the arrival of chips “M3 Pro” e “M3 Max” for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. Apple, however, has never presented three variants of its chipset in one fell swoop; This would be the first time.

According to Kuo, Maçã would be about to launch the “M3” later this year due to the “limitation of the increase in processing of the [chip] M2”. On your profile on X (formerly Twitter), the analyst wrote:

I believe this is why Apple may prefer to launch the MacBook Pro line [com] the “M3”, even when its production volume is still low, instead of continuing to sell MacBooks Pro [com] M2. Theoretically, the M3 should offer a more significant boost in processing.

Still according to Gurman, these powerful machines could feature CPUsCentral processing unitsor central processing units.”>1 up to 16 cores and GPUsGraphics processing unitsor graphics processing units.”>2 of up to 40 cores, in line with the company’s commitment to increasing performance to the maximum — living up to the name of the event, it is worth highlighting.

As I reported in August, Apple has been testing 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with the “M3 Max” and “M3 Pro” chips. These include up to 16 CPU cores and 40 GPU cores, setting the stage for its most powerful laptops to date. Additionally, MacBook Pro stock is running out.

Continuing with his speculations, the journalist from Bloomberg found that new MacBook Pros are being mass-produced and that their shipments are imminent. For him, there is no doubt that these are the models that should be announced next Monday.

New, more advanced MacBook Pros are in mass production and will likely ship soon. I have little doubt that these will be announced next week.

O iMac It should also receive new features, with the new generation expected to be equipped with the “M3” chip — thus skipping the M2. In addition, it may bring discreet changes to the internal design of the support, while maintaining the vibrant color options of the current generation.

Apple has been planning an iMac with an “M3” chip for some time, with the machine going into production months ago. There are no other significant changes except the chip, but the internal design of the bracket has been tweaked. I would expect the colors to remain similar.

Despite high expectations, there are products that may not appear at the event. For example: 13″ and 15″ MacBook Airs with the “M3” are not expected to make an appearance, as the larger version with the M2 was launched less than six months ago. Likewise, new Mac mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro should not be part of the list of new features.

Also in development are 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Airs with “M3” chips, but they are further behind the MacBooks Pro, and I don’t expect those to launch until next year. I wouldn’t expect a new Mac mini, Mac Studio, or Mac Pro until next year at the earliest.

It is also worth noting that, this time, the event will be 100% online and will not feature a reception for journalists at Apple Park. As noted by Gurmanthis is yet another indication that the products will not feature drastic design changes — which would generally justify an area of hands-on for them.

The event “Scary Fast” promises to be a night of many surprises for Maçã and the company’s fans. While we wait for the keynote, we begin the countdown to the full coverage that the MacMagazine will take care of all the details — whether on the website, in the our YouTube channelno X/Mastodon and much more! ????
