Playing the 555 sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti in a row: this is the performance in which 36 musicians from all over Europe have embarked. This marathon started on Friday and continues until next Friday at the Neuchâtel Museum of Art and History.
The event is intended for an audience of all ages. The form of the marathon was chosen to make baroque music more accessible. This performance was set up as a tribute to François Badoud, a psychoanalyst from Neuchâtel who was also a passionate collector of harpsichords. Dorota Cybulska is co-organizer of this marathon. Harpsichordist, she will play 40 Scarlatti sonatas herself.
Three harpsichords dating from the 16th to the 18th century are used for the occasion. These are a Ruckers from 1632 belonging to the Museum of Art and History of Neuchâtel, a Kroll from 1770 and a Neapolitan from 1530, both of which are in the hands of the Le Sautereau foundation created by Francois Badoud.
Dorota Cybulska also hopes to reach tomorrow’s audience with this event. Classes are thus invited to discover the works of Scarlatti and the harpsichord. On Friday morning, the students present were surprised to hear one of their own play two preludes by Bach, without a score on one of these instruments. Eleven-year-old Coline enjoyed putting her hands on the keyboard of the harpsichord. Julia, also 11 years old, enjoyed discovering the sounds of this instrument. Music report:
