The resounding victory of Max Verstappen, three-time world champion with Red Bull, marked the race, but the incident with Gasly stole the spotlight. On lap 12, the French driver entered the pits to change his tires, but the change was not completed correctly, which triggered the dramatic event.
The mechanic, hit by the loose rubber and Gasly’s own car, received immediate assistance and was able to get up with the help of his colleagues. Sky Sports journalist Ted Kravitz reported that the mechanic suffered a concussion, but fortunately did not suffer serious injuries.
The incident not only affected the mechanic, but also Gasly, whose pit stop was delayed by 20 seconds. Despite this, Gasly showed concern for the condition of his teammate during the race.
The drama did not stop there. On lap 21, the virtual safety car was implemented following the retirement of the car of Valtteri Bottas, from Stake F1 Team, and a collision between Lance Stroll and Daniel Ricciardo that forced the Australian to abandon.
Ricciardo, visibly upset, expressed his frustration towards Stroll and the maneuver that led to his retirement. “I don’t know what he’s doing, where his head is”declared Ricciardo, criticizing the action of the Aston Martin driver.
Tensions intensified in the meeting between Stroll and Ricciardo, with heated statements exchanged both on the track and on the radio. Stroll received a 2-point penalty on his Superlicense for his conduct, evidencing the strained atmosphere during the race.
The Chinese Grand Prix left a day marked by the excitement of the competition and incidents on the track, reminding drivers and teams of the importance of safety and concentration at every moment of the race.
According to the final result, the Dutchman, Max Verstappen, won the race with a 25-point difference in the championship; Lando Norris (2nd) and Checo Pérez (3rd) completed the podium.
