According to Egyptian media reports, the Egyptian delegation is the largest Arab delegation in the Olympics, with 164 athletes.
Egyptian beach volleyball player Doaa El-Ghobashy criticized many organizational issues in the 2024 Paris Olympics, most notably the lack of means to deal with the high temperatures.
“The organization of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics (2016) was much better than the Paris Olympics. We suffer greatly from the high temperatures inside the rooms in the Olympic village, as there are no air conditioners and we have to open the windows to get a breath of fresh air,” Duaa El-Ghobashy said in statements reported by the Egyptian website “FilGoal.”
She explained: “The organisation is not ideal and we do not feel comfortable while sleeping, and sometimes food is not available inside the Olympic village, and there are many athletes who complain about the poor organisation.”
On the other hand, her colleague Marwa Abdel Hadi said: “Playing with the hijab? It’s about our religion. I’m not impressed by the decision to ban French women from wearing the hijab.”
She continued: “I want to play with my hijab, another wants to play wearing a bikini, everything is fine, whether this or that, we just have to respect all different cultures and religions.”
Egyptian handball player Ali Zein had previously criticized the organization of the “Paris 2024” Olympic Games, and also spoke about the food crisis.
Ali Zein said in statements reported by the Egyptian newspaper “Al-Ahram” after the Hungary match in the first round that there is “suffering in providing food and water,” and that this is a matter that everyone suffers from, not just the Egyptian national team.
The player concluded his statements in this regard by pointing out that “organizing the African Games is better than organizing the Paris Olympics.”
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games kicked off on July 26 and will continue until August 11, with the exception of several sports that started before the opening, including football.
More than 10,000 athletes from 206 countries are competing in the current edition of the Paris 2024 Olympics in more than 300 competitions in 32 different sports.
