Scandals at the Winter Olympics

The ski jumping test of the Winter Olympics Beijing 2022, on the Zhangjiakou trampoline, was marked by the controversial disqualification of five skiers for having worn baggy suits that would give them an advantage over the rest while in the air.

One of the two teams disqualified was Germany, which had already won four of the five world titles in play since the mixed contest, due to the non-conformity of the costumes used by the Olympic runner-up Katharina Althauswho accused the International Ski Federation (FIS) of “destroying women’s ski jumping”.

“The FIS has destroyed everything with this operation”

” We were very happy to have a second test here at the Olympic Games ” for the women jumpers, stated Althaus, quoted by the German sports agency SID. “The FIS has destroyed everything with this operation. I think they’ve destroyed the women’s ski jump. I do not know what they are looking to do,” he said. “I have been controlled very often in 11 years doing ski jumps and I was never disqualified, not once. I know my suit was up to the rules.”, add.

The coach of the men’s team of Germany declared that, despite his disappointment at the disqualification, “you have to accept the rules”, being surprised that on the eve you might compete “without any problem” with the same suits.

Japan’s male star, Ryoyu Kobayashi was also affected by disqualifications, in his case following the second manga, for a job not adjusted to the rules that Sara Takanashi wore. Along with these, two Norwegians and one Austrian were disqualified for the same reasons.
