Sophie Pécrials (PS) has resigned from the Bureau of the Parliament of Wallonia, said the latter on Friday evening in a press release.
The president of the PS Paul Magnette had claimed earlier in the day the resignation from the office of the Walloon Parliament following the revelations regarding the controversial trip to Dubai last year by the clerk of the institution Frédéric Janssens and its president Jean-Claude Marcourt: “It’s not a question of anyone, and nothing has changed. I said yesterday and I say it once more today: it is a collective responsibility. Initially, the problem basically comes from the clerk for personnel management issues that are completely unacceptable. There are also complaints and it is up to the courts to decide. On questions of management of public money, in particular for works which have not been controlled, there too it is the responsibility of the clerk. But the clerk is controlled by a political authority, which is the office of Parliament, made up of five members. This office, he should have controlled this high official. It hasn’t been done. I think that at some point, we have to draw the political conclusions and say to ourselves that this office should submit its resignation. Be replaced by another office, which is also open to opposition“, had reacted the president of the PS in the RTL INFO 19H of Friday.
The interested party had also suggested replacing him “by a new office open to the opposition and which would restore extremely strict rules for the control of expenditure and that we avoid problems like these in the future”.
