In Santo Domingo, Antioquia, during the Chalán and Livestock Festivals, an official from the Attorney General’s Office caused discomfort among the attendees. In the costume parade and the “Young Night”, the official appeared with a costume that included clothing and bracelets from the National Liberation Army (ELN).
In a video that has circulated on social networks, members of the Police can be heard asking him, in a cordial manner, to remove the emblems of the guerrilla group. “Doña Martha, for the second time, asked you to remove your bracelets,” they tell her, asking her to get off the horse and accompany them to the station. The agents remind her that, as a public official, she should set a good example, to which she responds that she plans to report them for abuse of authority.
The official has been identified as Martha Ligia Zapata Escobar, who, according to the Public Function portal, has been in the Prosecutor’s Office since 2015. Until now, there have been no statements from local, departmental authorities or the Prosecutor’s Office regarding the event.

For its part, the Mayor’s Office of Santo Domingo highlighted the event on its social networks, stating that “last night, the streets were filled with life and color with each rider, surprising everyone with unique and creative costumes.” They also thanked all the participants and encouraged them to continue building moments that strengthen the community.

**Interview with Carlos Rodriguez, Local Journalist Covering the Santo Domingo Parade Incident**
**Interviewer:** Thank you for joining us today, Carlos. Can you give us a brief overview of what happened during the Santo Domingo Parade in Antioquia?
**Carlos Rodriguez:** Thank you for having me. The incident occurred during the Chalán and Livestock Festivals when a representative from the Attorney General’s Office participated in a costume parade. What made it controversial was that the official wore a costume adorned with clothing and accessories representing the National Liberation Army, or ELN. This choice was met with significant backlash from attendees.
**Interviewer:** That sounds quite provocative. What was the reaction from the public and law enforcement?
**Carlos Rodriguez:** As seen in videos circulating on social media, many attendees were visibly uncomfortable with the official’s attire. Police officers present at the event approached him in a polite manner and requested that he remove the guerrilla emblems. This interaction underscored the sensitivity surrounding symbols related to illegal armed groups in Colombia.
**Interviewer:** Given the historical context of groups like the ELN in Colombia, why do you think this official chose to dress this way?
**Carlos Rodriguez:** It’s difficult to say definitively. Some speculate it could have been an attempt at dark humor or social commentary, but that doesn’t justify the insensitivity. In a country where the legacy of violence from guerrilla warfare is still very present, many find it deeply offensive to trivialize such symbols. The incident reveals a disconnect between public officials and the sentiments of the communities they serve.
**Interviewer:** What are the potential implications of this incident for the Attorney General’s Office?
**Carlos Rodriguez:** This incident could lead to increased scrutiny of both the individual involved and the Attorney General’s Office as a whole. There may be a public outcry for accountability and a discussion about the appropriateness of how public officials represent themselves in cultural events. This might also provoke a wider conversation about the symbols we engage with in Colombia, particularly those tied to conflict.
**Interviewer:** Thank you, Carlos, for shedding light on this incident. It’s crucial to understand the dynamics at play in such sensitive situations.
**Carlos Rodriguez:** Thank you for having me. It’s important for us to continue discussing these issues to foster understanding and dialogue in our communities.
