Earthquake among the Dinant socialists. One of their (new) driving forces, present on the lists for the 2018 municipal elections and who has since been heavily involved in the USC (Communal Socialist Union), to the point of becoming its secretary, has slipped, In any case, this is the opinion of his authorities, who not only excluded him, but presented him with a letter of resignation from the social action council, which he signed.
According to our information, confirmed by the same socialist authorities, their ex-comrade admitted to them having lent small sums of money, a few dozen euros, to people in need. The added problem was that it was against interest, and at high rates. This last aspect is told to us by a social action advisor, who will remain anonymous. Because within the institution, everyone has been reminded of an absolute duty of confidentiality. The subject is extremely sensitive.
Questioned by us, when we asked her if a complaint has been or will be filed, the president of the CPAS Delphine Claes (Ecolo) kicked in: “The CPAS does not have to file a complaint because it is not a victim direct involvement of reprehensible actions. The subject being both covered by professional secrecy and the closed session which surrounds the decisions of the CPAS, I will not speak on the subject”. The resignation of the councilor will be recorded at next week’s municipal council, as will the appointment of his replacement. With debate? Behind closed doors?
We made a phone call to the main person concerned, the resigning social action advisor. His response: “There’s something wrong. You’re telling me something absurd. I have nothing to say. Thank you for calling me.”
“He confessed”
Let’s be clear ; we are very far from a big scandal. But within the USC of Dinant, it’s a cold shower: a socialist who lends money against interest to people in distress, that does it badly, very badly. We are playing the game of transparency, repeating that “confessions” were expressed by the now former advisor. This episode is quite traumatic for a political color which, locally, has been experiencing difficulties in recent years. As a reminder, the only two elected officials in 2018 (out of 23), including an alderman, resigned following tensions within the majority. At the last municipal elections, they had already rowed to constitute their list, the recruit now fired was considered dynamic, as very involved in the USC. But here we are, Linda Culot, the president of the Communal Socialist Union, tells us: “We were very surprised. He admitted.” The ethical problem was obvious, conclusions were drawn, and even imposed, without the need to insist. The Dinant socialists immediately thought of notifying their party’s ethics committee, but this is no longer necessary, since all the conclusions have been drawn.
The question we ask ourselves at USC: but how is it possible to commit such stupidity? An answer is put forward by socialist leaders: family and professional problems would not have helped and could provide an explanation.
It’s the grimace soup. A story like that, for the left party, is a very hard blow.
