Scalebound: PlatinumGames reaffirms its sincerity

We were talking to you Earlier in the day from future of PlatinumGames. Atsushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya had indeed raised this issue in an interview with VGC. But we also wanted to tell you what was said regarding a particular game. How that which one? Scalebound of cours !

Sincerity and change of plans

It has now been several times the video game sea serpent is back in the media spotlight. Inevitably, the theme was approached in order to find out if those who were waiting for it can recover hope. What is certain is that the vice-president of the studio and formerly director of the project, seeks to prove his sincerity by all means.

It’s something I thought I said or tried to say for years now. I said it in interviews before that and had no reaction, but now it has big repercussions and I’m happy regarding it. But no, it’s not a joke: I am perfectly serious on this issue, yes.

I have to say that the project fits perfectly with what the studio wants to focus on : more massive games, with an original universe while keeping a certain creative freedom. Not to mention only the resurrection of the title, it is interesting to note how the Japanese studio perceives Microsoft.

Peaceful relationships

Phil Spencer said it: contacts are not broken between PlatinumGames and Xbox. Kamiya, on the other hand, does not deny or affirm anything regarding possible discussions. Even going so far as to quote other market players to “drown the dragon”. However, when Activision Blizzard’s takeover process is discussed, Inaba seems to see this in a good light.

I think there will be a lot of mutual respect and that Activision can continue to do what it excels at. It’s also what matters most to us in the end, no matter what form it takes for us and our business. So I wouldn’t refuse anything, if indeed our freedom is always respected.

The president goes further by expressing his incomprehension at the little consolidation he can see from Japanese companies, judging them too passive for his taste. Perhaps a foot call to other companies? In all cases, unlikely to be for Konamiwith whom a collaboration had emerged through Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. When a new partnership is mentioned, the cloth seems to have burned between the two firms.

I think I want to run away from such conversations. I don’t think they interest me. Because when I think regarding the type of content that I want to create, we are looking to gain more independence, to make our own brands stronger, so what we have the ambition to create; these are new licenses that help us to highlight them.

Inaba also wishes to clarify that, despite the good relations that continue to exist with Nintendo or Square-Enix, soliciting them for new projects was not one of his priorities either. Let it be clear, it will not be easy to convince the head of the studio for future mergers!

Be that as it may, it is important to note that we are moving from a resentment once deemed invariable to quite cordial relations between Xbox and PlatinumGames. We will not fail to point out that the Japanese firm seems particularly friendly towards the American giant without showing the same enthusiasm vis-à-vis other well-known players. It now remains to be seen whether this good agreement will lead to anything. concrete and, assuming that this is the case, in what form…
