NaSpontaneous coronary artery dissection, or SCAD, is an abnormal heart attack that occurs in women in their twenties. Injury to the blood vessel can cause cardiac arrhythmias and sudden death. When there is a break in any of the three layers of an artery, blood flow slows and blood flows through the break and clots form between the layers. Like a tumor, this can block blood flow to the heart and cause a heart attack.

Another challenge is that the symptoms of a heart attack may not be recognizable. Symptoms of SCD include chest pain, rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, excessive sweating, pain in the legs and chin, fatigue, nausea, and dizziness. SCD is also associated with a condition called fibromuscular dysplasia, which is caused by abnormal cell growth in the walls of blood vessels. This condition is more common in women than men.

The American Heart Association says that those who have had it once are more likely to have it again. So try to control risk factors like high blood pressure, smoking and high cholesterol.
