SBB takes over its entire Cargo subsidiary
The company bought the minority shareholder Swiss Combi its 35% share, to consolidate their freight traffic and manage it alone.
SBB fully takes over its goods transport subsidiary. They buy out the minority shareholder Swiss Combi’s 35% stake in SBB Cargo. The management of the entity will be ensured by Alexander Muhm, hitherto head of CFF Immobilier.
With this share buyback, SBB wants to strengthen its commitment to freight traffic and manage it with one hand, they communicated on Wednesday. From now on, freight traffic will once again be managed at group level.
Federal grants?
Until now, the management of SBB Cargo worked on the basis of a coordination mandate and was not represented within the group management. With the announced measure, SBB wants to simplify the management structure and prepare for possible federal subsidies in single wagonload traffic.
The new Head of Freight Traffic and Head of SBB Cargo Alexander Muhm will take up his duties on June 26. He succeeds Désirée Baer, who led the entity since 2020. She is leaving the company.
