Without the volunteers in the country everything would be nothing. No child, no young person might do sports in a club. There would be no football derbies in the House of Commons, no exciting tennis matches and no hopeful sports talents in the country living out their dreams.
It is the approximately 60,000 volunteers throughout Upper Austria who hold an office in one or more of the 2,500 clubs. The OÖN and the Sportland Oberösterreich highlight the achievements of these people every year – together with Life Radio, TV1 and Tips. Each club is invited to nominate one person from the club – from August 17th, all volunteers submitted can be voted on in the respective districts. The district and state winners each receive 1,000 euros as a “thank you” for their voluntary work.
For example, Maria Feldbacher from TSU Jeging (Braunau district) has already been nominated. She works in the canteen, cleans and organizes the shopping. Her husband is a groundskeeper and her son also helps out in the club. Above all, it is the team spirit that makes the 64-year-old happy. “We’re a tight-knit bunch,” she says. As a reward for the cohesion, the footballers managed to get promoted to the 1st class South-West last year. In the past season the class might be maintained.
Information on the nomination (until August 10) can be found at nachrichten.at/ehrenamt
