Some electrically powered devices do not need to be plugged in all the time. Here are the ones to deactivate to save money.

In these times of crisis, saving money is essential. Especially on electricity bills which tend to swell from year to year. To achieve this, here are the devices to unplug in your home daily.

Electricity bills exploding this winter 2024

Inflation has still not said goodbye to us in 2024. If it is less strong than two years ago, it continues to weigh heavily on French budgets. Especially those with very little purchasing power.

If supermarket shopping continues to be expensive, so are the rest of your expenses. This is the case, for example, for energy bills. During the month of February, the bad news actually broke.

The electricity prices increased on average by +8.6%. It thus went from €0.2276 per kWh to €0.2516. That is the equivalent of an average increase of +187 € on the bill per year for basic rates.

However, winter is not quite over yet. If the sunny days are starting to appear, the temperatures are not yet at their best. The cold actually forces consumers to always turn on the heating in their homes currently.

Or, radiators are big electricity guzzlers. To save some money, some households do not hesitate to use the D system. Plaids, blankets and hot water bottles are indeed alternative weapons to fight the cold, without breaking the bank.

But heating is not the only thing that weighs heavily on the energy bill. Other devices running on electricity are also real suction pumps for your euros!

To successfully reduce your next bills, the best thing is to unplug them every day. If you do not run them continuously, it is recommended to turn them off to save valuable money.

These devices to unplug every day to save money

The first of them is the television. This device consumes the most electricity in standby mode. It can consume up to 180 kWh per year. Or the equivalent of a refrigerator (which operates continuously). Every evening, don’t forget to unplug it to save money.

Then there is your internet box. Although it uses 30% less power in standby mode, unplugging it every day can save you a few cents. Who will complain about it?

Also pay attention to your phone charger. Because it consumes electricity, even when the phone is not connected.

Still in the category of hi-tech devices, beware of your desktop computer. Because it also consumes a lot of energy in standby mode. Its many components require a lot of energy to function properly. The worst of them are gaming PCs which are real money pits if left plugged in continuously.

The one which is also very greedy in kWh is your games console. Be aware, 91% of the energy consumed by it is attributed to its standby time. So don’t hesitate to unplug it as soon as you’ve finished playing with it!

To save money on your electricity bills, don’t let either your printer permanently connected. This device does not need to be connected to a continuous outlet.

Finally, pay attention to typical small household appliances coffee maker, espresso machine or toaster… Do not plug them in all the time, as this can cost you dearly on your electricity bill.
