Thinking of booking an all-inclusive trip down south in the fall to save money? Or trying to find discounts on sun packages at the last minute? “Forget it!” says Johanne Germain, senior travel consultant at Vasco Boucherville.

Since the end of the pandemic, the adviser with more than 40 years of experience has never worked so much. “It’s crazy it does not stop!”.
“Travel is like the stock market, it goes with supply and demand, and demand is very strong and it does not run out of steam,” she notes.
Thus, off-season travel packages, which were often cheaper before, no longer exist.
“We don’t have any more off-seasons, now people travel all the time. Before, hotels took advantage of the summer to renovate, but today they can no longer do so, because there are always customers,” she explains in an interview with TVANouvelles.ca.
Prices for southern packages remain high, shows us the travel consultant. It offers us three good quality hotels, at the best possible price, for a period that was much cheaper a few years ago.
The prices offered are as of September 4 and are subject to change.
-October 12 – 7 days
Riu Dunamar, Playa Mujeres, Mexico – $1245 for an adult, taxes included.
-November 1 – 7 days
Bahia Principe Grand Turquesa, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – $1579 for an adult, taxes included
-November 1 – 7 days
Melia Internacional, Varadero, Cuba – $1599 for an adult, taxes included.
According to Ms. Germain, the best way to save is to book several months in advance.
“Tour operators reward people who book in advance. The best way to get the best price is to ”book early”. These packages are available from May to June for trips in December-January-February,” explains the travel expert. It is possible to save between $200 and $300.
Those who purchase trips this way also have a best price guarantee. If the price drops, customers are compensated, “there is a best price guarantee”.
If people also go for sun packages in the fall, the hurricane season may worry many, and with good reason.
Tour operators now sell travel protections, which are not insurance, and which allow travelers to cancel by being reimbursed or receiving a credit.
This is notably the product offered by Transat with Flex Extra. For $149, taxes included, it is possible to have a trip reimbursed in full on your credit card. It is also possible to change destination.
Air Canada offers a similar product, but does not reimburse the trip. Instead, the company will offer internal credit.
Sunwing also offers travel protection, but does not offer refunds, only travel credit.
“Travel protection is not insurance. Insurance does not protect once morest an ”Act of God” like a hurricane. With travel protection, you can cancel your trip without having to explain yourself, but you have to respect the deadlines, ”says Ms. Germain.
